Getting a diagnosis for chronic pain and fibromyalgia
Recently I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia, by a doctor at the local surgery, in a matter of minutes. I didnt have to be referred to a hospital consultant and wait months for an appointment. I am astonished! I have had years of undiagnosed chronic pain. I have tried numerous times to get my regular gp to send me "Somewhere/Anywhere" to get a diagnosis, so thst I could get the right treatment. Only one week previously I had an appointment with my regular gp and was told I had to make another appointment to take care of my pain issues as I ran out of time. Turns out it was a good thing. I decided to take the first available gp and it was someone new. Someone who knew what they were talking about. I have know about fibromyalgia for years, I did suspect I had it but kept hitting a brick wall as my blood results were clear so I was told. Turns out you cant diagnose it from a blood test. Turns out doctors can now diagnose it and you dont need to go through the hospital consultant route like before. It makes me question everything, especially why did it take a different doctor to do it? What were the reasons that my regular doctor had for not getting me diagnosed? My mind is literally boggling! Is it real? Surely it cant be that simple? Well apparently, yes it can! So, now I know my condition and now I can focus on managing it better. Please please please, if you are not getting anywhere with your regular doctor, try a different one. You may get the diagnosis you have been waiting years for and the peace of mind you deserve.
