As part of my life I have had to deal with people staring, pointing and whispering. This is something that can take A LOT of time to get used to. Some days I ignore it and other days I cant ignore it and it pulls me down so I hide away. The summer can be the worst.
You see I am a self-harmer and I have visible scars on my arms. Some days when I am out I just ignore people staring and other days I either refuse to go out, put my hoody on or become quite upset.
I am also in a same sex relationship and when we hold hands out and about we get looks, stares, whispering etc.
I have just learnt to live my life for me. If I have a self conscious day then I will stay in or take measures to make people less likely to stare (make up, hoody). One thing I refuse to do though is change who I am. Just because I love another woman doesn't make me any less human than anyone else.
No-one but me can see the world through my eyes.
