During a session about dealing with your inner critic, I joked about the idea of having a self-care flowchart to help determine whether I'm having real doubts or if I'm just having negative thoughts because of poor self care. I thought about it a little more and decided it'd be something interesting to write about - I hope you enjoy!

that isn't pop tarts and candy
today?

Eat a vegetable.
Eat 2 more vegetables.
Do you still feel bad?

on an actual bed
at night time?
No.
Is it night time now?
Yes.
Go to bed. 
Sleep.

Yes.

An actual human conversation
with real words?
No.
Call someone.
Call.
Don't text.
Don't tweet.
Don't snap.

Go outside.

and go outside.

Pet AT LEAST 4 dogs.
Stay there for at least an hour.

Yes.
Stop it. Close Facebook
shut down twitter
and turn off your phone.
Do you still feel bad?
Yes.
Are you watching the news?
Yes.
DEFINITELY stop that.
Forever.
Put on some cartoons
or a show about baking nice cakes.
Do you still feel bad?
Yes.
 
Are there pills in the house?
Yes.
Hide them.
Lock the front door
and hide the keys.
Move your shoes
into different rooms
to create barriers
to keep yourself safe.
Call a helpline.

that you love them.
Survive
just one more night.

Does your problem have a solution?
No.
Then it isn't
really
a problem.
Problems 
without solutions
are just neuroses.
Toxic thoughts
twisted fantasies
of a broken brain.
But you can fix it.
It just takes time.
You can fix it.
Because you are beautiful
and strong
and loved.
